London: In a gripping finale at The Oval, India secured a dramatic six-run win over England in the fifth and final Test, levelling the series 2-2 and successfully retaining the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Needing just 35 runs on the final day with five wickets in hand, England appeared poised for a series-clinching victory. However, Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj turned the tide with a sensational spell, claiming three wickets on the final day to complete a five-wicket haul. He was ably supported by Prasidh Krishna, who picked up four wickets in the match.
England were eventually bowled out for 367 in their second innings, falling agonizingly short of the 374-run target. The collapse was triggered late on Day 4, when India, looking all but beaten, staged a spirited comeback through inspired spells from Siraj and Prasidh. Centurions Joe Root and Harry Brook, who had anchored England’s chase, were dismissed in quick succession as the hosts lost three wickets for just 36 runs.
Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, India had to win the match to level the series and retain the prestigious Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The team rose to the occasion with a fierce bowling performance, demonstrating resilience and composure under pressure.
The victory marks a memorable turnaround for India and a fitting end to a closely fought series.
