Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation, in association with GH Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation, is organizing one of the biggest chess events – the 5th Nagpur Below 1700 FIDE Rating Chess Tournament – from 15th to 17th August at GH Raisoni Institute of Engineering and Technology, Shraddha Park, MIDC, Nagpur. The event, having AICF Event Code 416510/MAH/2025, is recognised by Chess Association Nagpur, MCA, AICF, and FIDE.
More than 260 players from across India, including Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Delhi, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and the entire state of Maharashtra have already confirmed their participation in this mega event.
Shri Sunil Raisoni (Chairman, Raisoni Group), Shri Girish Vyas (President, Chess Association Nagpur), Shri Vivek Kapur (Director, GHRIET), Dr. Mrunal Naik (Project Director), and Shri Amit Gandhare (Director PR, Raisoni Group) have extended their warm wishes for the success of this grand tournament.
The tournament carries a total prize fund of ₹3,00,000/-, including a special cash prize sponsored by SG Realty. There will also be 100+ trophies across various age categories – Under 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 – and Veterans.

The inauguration ceremony will be held on 15th August at 9:30 AM at GH Raisoni Institute of Engineering and Technology, Shraddha Park, MIDC, Nagpur. The first round of the Below 1700 category will begin at 10:00 AM on 15th August, and the Prize Distribution Ceremony will take place at 7:00 PM on 17th August.
The last date for registration is 10th August. This tournament offers a great opportunity for players from all over India to earn their international rating in the classical format.
Mr. Bhushan Shriwas (Secretary, CAN & KPWF and Organizing Secretary of the event) alongwith the organising team are working tirelessly to ensure the tournament’s grand success. A recognized team of arbiters, led by International Arbiter Mr. Ajinkya Pingle, along with IA Shiva Iyer, FA Sagar Sakhare, FA Amit Temburne, FA Bharti Dhote, FA Shishir Indurkar, SNA Prayas Ambade, Shubham Soni, and Prathamesh Machave, will officiate and monitor the tournament.
