A notorious history-sheeter was brutally murdered in Nagpur in what police suspect to be a fallout of an ongoing gang rivalry. The gruesome incident took place early Thursday morning under the Rajiv Gandhi Nagar bridge, within the jurisdiction of Yashodhara Nagar Police Station.
The deceased has been identified as Sameer Sheikh alias Yeda Shamsher Khan (30), a resident of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar and a well-known criminal in Zone 5. Police records reveal that Sameer had over 31 serious criminal cases registered against him, including charges of attempted murder, assault, and offences under the MPDA Act. He was also allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade, especially in ganja (marijuana) trafficking.
Initial investigation suggests that the murder was orchestrated by a rival gangster named Ashu, who also resides in the same locality. Armed with machetes (koita) and baseball bats, Ashu and his gang are believed to have ambushed Sameer near the bridge as he was returning home from his in-laws’ residence in Mominpura.
The attackers inflicted multiple fatal injuries before fleeing the scene. Police said the crime scene was dangerously close to the house of the suspected mastermind, Ashu, strengthening suspicions of his involvement. He is currently absconding, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend him and his associates.
Yashodhara Nagar Police responded quickly, sent the body for post-mortem, and began a detailed probe. Several individuals have already been detained for questioning in connection with the case.
Sources within the police department believe the murder is linked to a violent turf war between rival gangs operating in the northern parts of the city. Police presence in the area has been intensified to prevent any escalation or retaliatory attacks.
Further investigation is underway.
