According to data released by the state government, 1,324 patients in the Nagpur region are currently awaiting organ transplants. A single act of organ donation can save multiple lives. In this context, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has appealed to citizens to come forward for organ donation.
The state’s Public Health Department has launched an organ donation campaign from August 3 to mark Organ Donation Fortnight. Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari has directed officials to ensure the state government’s organ donation drive is implemented effectively in the city. Under the guidance of Additional Municipal Commissioner Atul Sumeet, awareness programs will be conducted in city schools, colleges, non-governmental organisations, religious bodies, healthcare institutions, and other organisations until August 13.
NMC Health Officer Dr. Dipak Selokar stated that public awareness and scientific information on organ donation will be disseminated to people from all walks of life. During the awareness campaign, more people will be encouraged to register for organ donation. Anyone can take the pledge to donate organs after death by providing their mobile number and Aadhaar number.
The state health department has also launched a dedicated website (www.jeevandaan.gov.in) where citizens can register online for organ donation using their mobile number and Aadhaar. The NMC is urging residents to register and support this life-saving cause.
