Independence Day turned costly for hundreds of motorists in the city, as the Nagpur Traffic Police cracked down on rule violators and issued challans to 469 vehicles, recovering fines to the tune of ?6,02,950 on August 15.
The city police also intensified parallel operations against liquor, gambling, and narcotics offences. Under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 25 cases were registered and goods worth ?1.32 lakh were seized. Similarly, five cases under the NDPS Act led to the arrest of offenders involved in drug-related crimes.
In addition, action was taken against illegal gambling activities, with 53 persons booked across seven cases. Police seized gambling material valued at ?2.17 lakh.
Officials said these drives were conducted across multiple police station jurisdictions and will continue in the coming days. Authorities have also urged citizens to carry all valid documents while driving and strictly follow traffic rules to avoid hefty fines.
