Nagpur: Two municipal staffers have been arrested by Jaripatka Police for allegedly abetting the suicide of a sanitation worker employed with Nagpur Municipal Corporation.
The deceased, Raju Upadhye (58), resident of Jagrut Nagar, was injured at work on August 3 and was under treatment. When his son submitted a leave application on his behalf, supervisors Yogesh Hatipchel (42) and Guddu Raut (50) allegedly rejected the request and continued assigning him extra work.
On August 6, around 12.30 pm, Upadhye hanged himself with a nylon rope at his residence. In a suicide note, he named both accused, holding them responsible for harassment at the workplace.
Initially registered as an accidental death, the case was converted into an FIR after inquiry. The accused have been booked under Sections 108 and 3(5) of the BNS and are in custody.
