Nagpur’s Sairaj Nayse and his Mumbai partner Satya Chauhan went down fighting in the U-17 boys doubles semi-finals of the Maharashtra Sub-Junior State U-15 & U-17 Badminton tournament which concluded at the Arundhati Arun Badminton Academy in Nagpur on Thursday.
In an exciting hour-long clash, Sairaj and Satya lost 14-21, 21-14, 19-21 to Thane’s Tanay Joshi and Yash Dhembare.
After both the pairs shared the first two games, Sairaj and Satya were leading 15-12 in the decider but their senior rivals fought back to clinch the match in their favour.
Earlier, Sairaj and Satya had knocked out second seeds Sayaji Shelar and Udayan Deshmukh to enter the semis.
It was the second time in the season, Sairaj, a student of Narayana Vidyalayam, had to settle with a bronze medal. In the first State selection tournament in Pune last month, Sairaj and Anannya Shinde had won the bronze medal in the
U-17 mixed doubles.
In the U-17 boys singles in Nagpur, eleventh seed Sairaj was beaten by third seed and eventual champion Aayush Adey in the pre-quarters.
