The cut-off marks for admission to MBBS courses across the state have dropped notably this year. According to the first merit list released for government colleges, the open category cut-off has fallen to 509 marks. Last year, admission to government medical colleges in the open category required 642 marks, while private medical colleges had a cut-off of 479 marks. This time, the cut-off has gone down considerably, benefiting many students.
In total, admission procedures are currently underway for 8,138 seats in medical courses. Alongside MBBS, the reduced cut-offs will also benefit admissions in Dental, Ayurveda, and Homeopathy streams. Experts suggest that the lowering of the cut-off is due to the NEET exam becoming relatively easier this year and the high number of candidates appearing.
The state’s admission cell reported that after the first two rounds of allotment, 64,841 students secured admission, while more than 1.8 lakh students had registered. Out of these, 1,62,205 students were allotted seats, and 34,931 were admitted in the first round, followed by 29,910 in the second round. A total of 1,18,919 seats still remain vacant. The third merit list for B.Tech admissions will be released on August 21, while for medical courses, the next rounds will now decide the fate of students who are yet to secure a seat.
