Nagpur: The Sadar Police have registered a case under Section 291 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Rashmi Sameer Barve for allegedly abandoning her pet dogs and cats in Mohan Nagar, creating a nuisance and posing a threat to local residents.
The case was filed on the basis of a complaint lodged by Dinesh Chandrakant Naidu (51), a resident of Arc Nest Apartment, Mohan Nagar. Naidu, who runs a computer sales business and lives with his wife and two children, alleged that Barve earlier lived opposite Ganesh Mandir with three pet dogs. In March 2025, after selling her house to a buyer named Sarda and moving elsewhere, she reportedly left her pets behind without making arrangements for their care.
Residents claimed that despite repeated requests to either take the animals along or relocate them to a shelter, Barve did not respond. According to Naidu, the abandoned dogs often chase passersby, instilling fear in the neighborhood, while students of St. Joseph’s School, located nearby, face heightened safety risks. In addition to the dogs, Barve allegedly left behind three cats, further raising concerns of accidents and attacks.
Following the complaint, the police confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is currently in progress.
