Nagpur’s civic election scene is heating up after the State Election Commission (SEC) cleared the draft prabhag structure for the 2025 Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) polls. With boundaries nearly unchanged from 2017 but thousands of new voters added, parties and former corporators have already shifted into poll gear.
Citizens can file objections and suggestions until 3 p.m. on September 4, but insiders say only cosmetic tweaks are likely before the final plan is sealed. The city remains carved into 38 prabhags electing 151 corporators—37 prabhags with four members each (two men, two women), and one with three.
The real twist lies in numbers. Each prabhag has gained 3,000–8,000 voters, and the tally will climb further once updated rolls from Assembly elections are added. For sitting leaders and hopefuls, that means tougher contests and rejigged campaign math.
Minor fixes were made during the drafting stage:
• Prabhag 23 got back 400 residents mistakenly shifted to Prabhag 26.
• Typing errors in Prabhags 1 and 2 were corrected.
• Directional slip-ups in Prabhags 8 and 19 were rectified.
Reactions from former corporators were muted. BJP’s Bunty Kukde and Congress’ Ramesh Punekar acknowledged rising voter counts but admitted their areas remain intact. Former Opposition Leader Tanaji Wanwe and ex-standing panel chiefs Pradeep Pohane and Pintu Zhalke echoed similar views.
With BJP and Congress bracing for direct face-offs, Shiv Sena and NCP battling factional splits, and BSP eyeing its core vote, the draft map has set the stage for a high-voltage showdown in 2025.
