Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Thursday jointly announced a protest march in Mumbai on July 26, expressing solidarity with students and parents over the alleged police action against protesters and the NEET paper leak controversy.
Addressing a joint press conference, Uddhav Thackeray accused the government of using excessive force against student demonstrators and questioned the handling of the protests. He alleged that women protesters were also mistreated during the police action and said the march would provide a platform for people to voice their grievances.
Uddhav also said he had spoken to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, regarding the protest. According to him, leaders of the Maharashtra Congress will participate in the march alongside workers of Shiv Sena (UBT) and the MNS.
Raj Thackeray said the morcha will begin at Shivaji Park in Dadar and conclude at the Siddhivinayak Temple in Prabhadevi. After reaching the temple, the leaders and participants will offer prayers to Lord Ganesh.
The march is expected to bring together supporters of the two Thackeray-led parties, along with members of other opposition parties, as they seek to raise their voice over the issues affecting students and demand accountability from the government.
