The government has ensured the safety of school students , Maharashtra Motor Vehicles (School Buses) (First Amendment) Rules , with a view to transparent and regulated traffic, 2026 has been notified and these rules have been published in the Gazette on July 16. All school management , School bus/van driver , Vehicle owners and guardians should take note of these rules and take necessary action . This appeal has been made by the Department of Transport.
The key provisions under these amendments are as follows. School transport fares will be fixed by the Regional Transport Authority. It will be mandatory for the School Transport Committee to resolve complaints from parents and submit quarterly compliance reports. Drivers , Written appointment of female nurses and other transport staff , Background checks and medical examinations will be mandatory. It will be necessary to keep a record of the daily boarding and alighting of students. For students of pre-primary and up to class V, it will be necessary to have a female nurse or designated staff in each round. It will be necessary to arrange special assistance for students with disabilities and special needs.
All school buses and vans are equipped with vehicle location tracking devices and panic buttons as per AIS-140 standards , Fire safety systems as well as seat belts have been made mandatory for all seats. Digital safety systems , CCTV , Live trekking , At least 30 days of CCTV by providing information to parents through a mobile app It will be necessary to preserve the footage. All schools and vehicle drivers are required to comply with these rules within three months from the date of publication of the gazette , Failure to comply with the rules may result in suspension or cancellation of the relevant license.
