Nagpur: Winning a gold medal at any national basketball championship will now bring cash rewards for every player and coach of Maharashtra teams, announced Maharashtra State Basketball Association (MSBA) President and MLC Sandip Joshi.
Joshi made the announcement while interacting with the 19 probables of the Maharashtra Junior (U-18) girls team during their ongoing preparatory camp, organised by Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) at its Shankar Nagar court. The 15-day training camp, being held under the aegis of the Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA), will conclude with the selection of a 12-member squad for the 75th Junior National Basketball Championship, scheduled in Ludhiana, Punjab, from September 2 to 9.
“If Maharashtra wins a gold medal at any national championship, each team member and coaching staff will receive ₹50,000 in cash,” Joshi said. “For a silver medal, the reward will be ₹25,000 per player and coach.”
Joshi also revealed plans to launch a state-level basketball league in Pune, Mumbai, and Nagpur soon, according to a press release issued by the NDBA.
Present on the occasion were NDBA Secretary and MSBA Vice-President Bhavesh Kuchanwar, Maharashtra girls team head coach Dhiraj Kadao, assistant coach Shyam Khedekar, and manager-cum-physiotherapist Anshita Mohod.
Players from Pune, Nagpur, Mumbai, Nanded, Nashik, Solapur, Kolhapur, and Satara have been participating in the camp since August 17. The final 12-member team will depart for Ludhiana from Nagpur on August 31.
