MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Cabinet on Tuesday approved the construction of the Nagpur–Gondia controlled-access expressway, aimed at reducing the travel time between the two cities from over three hours to just 90 minutes. Alongside, the government has sanctioned the process of land acquisition at a cost of ₹3,162 crore.
The 162.5-km expressway will be developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and is expected to benefit 115 villages across Nagpur, Bhandara, and Gondia districts. According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the project will strengthen connectivity between Nagpur, Mumbai, and backward as well as tribal-dominated regions.
Planned as an extension of the Mumbai–Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, the project will include 26 flyovers, eight wildlife underpasses, 15 major bridges, 63 minor bridges, and eight interchanges. The expressway will start from Gavsi Manapur Interchange on the Wardha–Chandrapur road near Jamtha.
