Nagpur is set to host the Yonex-Sunrise Amol Kale Memorial Yash Open Nagpur District Badminton Tournament from August 28 to 31 at the Subhedar Badminton Hall, RTMNU Sports Complex, Ravi Nagar.
The four-day championship, organised by Yash Audio Visuals under the aegis of the Nagpur District Badminton Association (NDBA) and sanctioned by the Maharashtra Badminton Association (MBA), will feature competitions across seven categories, ranging from Under-9 to senior and veteran (35+ years) divisions in both singles and doubles.
With a prize pool exceeding ₹2 lakh, the tournament has already attracted nearly 200 participants, with organisers expecting another hundred entries before the registration deadline on Tuesday. “Matches will follow BAI, MBA, and NDBA regulations to ensure high standards of competition,” said Mangesh Kashikar, Senior Vice-President of MBA and Secretary of NDBA, during a press briefing on Monday.
The event is dedicated to the memory of Amol Kale (1976–2024) — a dynamic leader, entrepreneur, and former President of the Mumbai Cricket Association (2022–2024) — celebrated for his contributions to sports and community initiatives. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is expected to attend the inauguration ceremony.
“During the tournament, we will also felicitate city stars Malvika Bansod, Ritika Thaker, and Rohan Gurbani for their outstanding performances at the national and international levels,” shared Sourabh Kerhalkar, Director of Yash Audio Visuals and the first player from Nagpur to represent the Indian squad.
Players can register online at www.ndba.co.in until August 26. For further details, they may contact Sourabh Kerhalkar, Madhavi Kashikar Hedaoo, Anant Apte, Aditya Galande, or Nishad Choure.
