Promising city boxer Navanya Sawalakhe has earned a place in the Maharashtra team for the upcoming Sub-Junior National Boxing Championship, scheduled to be held at Lovely Professional University in Punjab from June 22 to 29.
Navanya secured her berth in the state squad after delivering an impressive performance at the recently concluded Inter-District State Boxing Championship in Jalna, where she clinched the gold medal. Competing in the sub-junior girls’ 46-49 kg category, Navanya defeated her opponent from Akola by a unanimous decision in the final to emerge champion.
In recognition of her outstanding display throughout the tournament, she was also adjudged the Most Promising Boxer in the girls’ division. Navanya trains under the guidance of NIS coach Ganesh Purohit and receives support from coaches Yogesh Mishra and Rounak Khambalkar at the Divisional Sports Complex, Mankapur Stadium.
Office-bearers of the Maharashtra Boxing Association and the Nagpur District Boxing Association congratulated the young boxer on her achievement and extended their best wishes for a successful outing at the national championship.
