India will witness a total lunar eclipse on September 7, offering astronomy and science enthusiasts a rare opportunity to observe the celestial phenomenon popularly known as the Blood Moon or Red Moon.
According to Prof. Suresh Chopne, astronomer and president of the Sky Watch Group, the eclipse will begin at 9:27 pm and continue until 12:22 am. The entire event will last for 5 hours and 27 minutes. The partial eclipse is expected to start around 9:57 pm, with the total phase commencing at 11:00 pm and ending at 12:22 am, making the total duration of the complete eclipse 2 hours and 7 minutes.
During this period, the Moon will appear reddish in color, hence the name Blood Moon. Prof. Chopne emphasized that such eclipses have been relatively rare in India this year, making the upcoming event significant for observers.
He further appealed to the public to view and study the eclipse in a scientific and astronomical spirit, urging people not to associate it with myths or superstitions. Clear skies, he added, will provide a spectacular view of the phenomenon.
