Chandrapur: Social activist Ibadul Siddiqui from Ghughus has urged the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to introduce separate lanes for two-wheelers on both national and state highways in order to reduce accidents involving motorcycles and scooters.
In a memorandum submitted to the minister, Siddiqui highlighted the alarming rise in two-wheeler mishaps. Citing data presented in Parliament, he pointed out that in 2020, nearly 65% of the 1.5 lakh road accident fatalities were bike riders aged between 19 and 35 years.
The activist also appealed for measures to increase green cover along highways, stressing that tree plantations could not only provide shade but also enhance rider safety.
