Reservations for Maharashtra’s 34 Zilla Parishad Presidents have been announced on Friday. The Election Commission also announced the reservations for the posts of Vice Presidents and subject committees. The announcement indicates that elections to local bodies will be held within the next few months. The elections to the local bodies will be held after a delay of about two and a half years.
While finalising the reservations census of 2011 was taken into consideration. Besides caste-based reservation, seats for women in the open and reserved categories have been considered.
Preparations for the local body elections had already started by almost all the major political parties. With the announcements, those interested in contesting will start planning for their campaigning and fetching party tickets.
