A widow has been duped of ₹1.11 crore under the pretext of investing in mutual funds. Kotwali police have registered a case against three people, including a couple.
The accused have been identified as Ram Jagjeevandas Vasani (43), his wife Sejal Vasani (43) of Dharampeth, and Narendra Vasani (46) of Vaykroli Nagar, Nandanvan. The accused reportedly run an office where they deal in deposits and investments.
The complainant, Varsha Thakre of Mahal, lost her husband Mangesh recently. Before his death, Mangesh had taken out two insurance policies. After his death, Varsha and her son received ₹1.10 crore from the claims.
During this time, Varsha met Ram Vasani, who assured her that work related to ONO LIC policies could be handled. Under this guise, the accused allegedly lured her into “mutual fund investments” and misappropriated the money.
Police have booked the three under charges of fraud and further investigation is underway.
