The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is closely monitoring airfares and flight capacities for the upcoming festive season to prevent steep ticket price hikes and ensure passenger convenience.
Domestic airfares, though deregulated, often witness spikes on high-demand routes during festivals. The DGCA, tasked with overseeing ticket prices, has reviewed fare trends and requested airlines to increase flight capacities to manage the surge in demand.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said, “DGCA will maintain rigorous oversight of airline fares and flight capacities to protect passengers’ interests during the festive season.”
To meet anticipated demand, IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, and SpiceJet will operate additional flights. IndiGo plans to run approximately 730 extra services across 42 sectors, while Air India and Air India Express will add around 486 flights on 20 sectors. SpiceJet will operate an estimated 546 additional flights across 38 sectors.
The ministry did not provide specific details on the start date or duration of these additional flights.
