Every year, World Standards Day is celebrated globally on October 14 to commemorate the first international agreement on standardization in 1947, which laid the foundation for modern industrial cooperation and a unified system of quality. The day aims to recognize the contributions of experts, institutions, and organizations who develop and implement international standards, making our lives safer, more efficient, and better.
Continuing this tradition, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Nagpur Branch Office will organize World Standards Day 2025 on October 14, 2025, at Hotel Radisson Blu, Nagpur.
The event will be led by Mr. Hemant B. Ade, Director, BIS Nagpur Branch Office. The chief guest for the program will be Dr. (Prof.) Prem Lal Patel, Director, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, who will share his inspiring thoughts.
The theme for this year is:
“Shared Vision for a Better World – Spotlight on SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals”, emphasizing that international standards not only promote innovation and excellence but also provide a strong foundation for sustainable development and global progress.
The program will include a panel discussion on the theme “Shared Vision for a Better World,” where representatives from industry and academia will share insights on the modern impact of standardization. Organizations and individuals who have made notable contributions in the field of standardization will also be honored during the event. Additionally, public awareness sessions will introduce students and young professionals to the importance of standardization and the career opportunities it offers.
Standardization forms the backbone of quality and safety in modern life. It enhances the reliability of products and services, facilitates global trade, and encourages innovation and technological development. International standards strengthen collaboration between countries and industries, fostering both economic growth and consumer confidence.
World Standards Day was first celebrated in 1970 to commemorate the initial international standardization agreement. Today, it is observed in over 150 countries and serves as an occasion to honor the ongoing contributions of international organizations such as ISO, IEC, and ITU.
World Standards Day is not just a celebration of standardization achievements—it symbolizes a shared commitment to excellence, safety, and innovation, and to moving toward a better, coordinated, and sustainable future.
