Nagpur: In a major cleanliness initiative ahead of Diwali, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has rolled out a beautification campaign targeting 50 garbage-prone locations across the city. The civic body aims to permanently shut down these landfill points by November 15, marking a significant step toward a cleaner and more visually appealing Nagpur.
As part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, NMC has identified five major garbage accumulation sites in each of the city’s 10 zones, totalling 50 hotspots. Additional Commissioner Vasumana Pant has instructed the Waste Management Department to ensure the complete closure of these sites within the set deadline.
Sanitation inspectors have been directed to investigate the root causes of recurring garbage buildup and implement preventive measures to stop waste from reaccumulating. Once cleared, the beautification of these sites will be managed by the respective zone’s sanitation officers.
In parallel, Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) teams will conduct awareness campaigns in the affected areas to encourage residents to maintain cleanliness and adopt better waste disposal habits.
With this initiative, the NMC aims not only to remove unsightly garbage dumps but also to promote a sustainable culture of civic responsibility across Nagpur.
