Satara: A 29-year-old woman doctor working at a government hospital in Phaltan, Satara, was found dead by suicide on Thursday, with police stating that her life might have been saved if her complaints had been acted upon earlier.
The doctor reportedly named PSI Gopal Badane and Prashant Bankar, her landlord’s son, in a note written on her palm. Police have arrested Bankar; the note alleged that Badane raped her four times and that Bankar harassed her for five months.
A four-page suicide letter also surfaced, in which the doctor accused a Member of Parliament and two personal assistants of pressuring her to issue fake fitness certificates for individuals involved in police cases. She claimed repeated harassment when refusing these demands, including threats from police officials and political figures.
Her cousin said she had filed complaints with senior officers and the local SDPO earlier this year, but no action was taken. Satara police, however, said the June complaint she filed was unrelated to these allegations.
Satara Additional SP Vaishali Kaduskar expressed deep regret, saying, “If action had been taken on her complaints in time, or if she had told someone about the atrocities, perhaps her life could have been saved.”
The investigation is ongoing, with further action expected based on the evidence from her notes and letter.
