Nagpur: The JSW Elite Division Football Tournament, organised by the Nagpur District Football Association (NDFA), is set to begin on October 29 at the NDFA’s Suyog Nagar ground. The opening match, scheduled for 3:30 pm, will feature a high-voltage clash between defending champions Rabbani Club and last year’s runners-up Young Muslim Football Club (YMFC).
Addressing a press conference, NDFA president Haresh Vora announced that ten teams will compete for the championship title — Rabbani Club, Ansar Club, Rahul Sankritayan Club, Eleven Star, Friends Sports Star, Friends Sports Academy, Young Muslim, MOIL, Qidwai, and SE Railway.
The winner of the tournament will receive a cash prize of ₹1,25,000, while the runners-up will be awarded ₹75,000. The Player of the Tournament will take home ₹35,000.
Vora also highlighted new reforms introduced this year, stating that registration of participating clubs with the Charity Commissioner’s Office has been made mandatory. In addition, the NDFA has pledged to provide medical assistance to players in case of injuries during matches.
He further announced that NDFA will soon organise youth football tournaments in the Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, and Under-20 categories, open to registered academies. “So far, 20 academies have registered with NDFA,” Vora informed.
The press meet was attended by JSW GM (Operations) Vinod Verma, AGM Rinku Singh, Senior Manager Dilip Gajbhiye, CSR Head Praney Patil, NDFA Vice-President Atmaram Pande, Secretary Iqbal Kashmiri, General Secretary Stanley Gregory, Kamil Ansari, Mohammad Mubin, and others.
