Mumbai: An IndiGo flight (6E 68) operating from Jeddah to Hyderabad was diverted to Mumbai early Saturday following a security threat received by the Hyderabad airport. The flight landed safely in Mumbai, and all passengers were reported to be safe.
According to officials, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) received a threat email around 5:30 am, warning that a “human bomb” was onboard the flight. The email also claimed that LTTE-ISI operatives were planning a “1984 Madras Airport-style blast” and urged authorities to stop the aircraft from landing in Hyderabad.
Following the alert, security agencies swiftly activated emergency protocols, and the aircraft was rerouted to Mumbai as a precautionary measure.
An IndiGo spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating, “A security threat was received for IndiGo flight 6E 68 operating from Jeddah to Hyderabad on November 1. The aircraft was diverted to Mumbai, and relevant authorities were immediately informed. We fully cooperated with security agencies in conducting all necessary checks before clearing the aircraft for further operations.”
Authorities are investigating the source of the threat email, while security at both Hyderabad and Mumbai airports has been intensified as a precautionary step.
