The upcoming Nagpur-Goa (Pavnar–Patradevi) Shaktipeeth Expressway, being developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), is poised to transform connectivity across Maharashtra. The six-lane, access-controlled greenfield corridor will stretch 802.6 km, linking Nagpur to the Maharashtra-Goa border at Patradevi, significantly reducing travel time and boosting trade, tourism, and religious connectivity.
Seamless inter-regional connectivity
The expressway will feature multiple interchanges connecting it with other major routes —
- Jalna–Nanded Expressway near Parbhani
- Surat–Chennai Expressway near Tuljapur
- Pune–Bengaluru Expressway near Tasgaon
These junctions will allow motorists to traverse Maharashtra — from east to west — entirely on access-controlled expressways.
Project progress and route
Joint measurement work is underway across 12 districts, with substantial progress reported in Vidarbha. Work is ongoing in all districts except Kolhapur, where land acquisition is being finalized.
The expressway, aptly named “Shaktipeeth” for its spiritual significance, will connect several major pilgrimage sites such as Mahur, Tuljapur, and Kolhapur, serving both economic and religious purposes.
Project highlights
- Total length: 802.6 km
- Configuration: Six-lane, access-controlled corridor
- Estimated cost: ₹20,787 crore (including land acquisition)
- Start point: Pavnar (Wardha district)
- End point: Patradevi (Sindhudurg district)
- Districts covered: Wardha, Yavatmal, Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani, Beed, Latur, Dharashiv, Solapur, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Sindhudurg
Transformational benefits
The expressway will cut Nagpur–Goa travel time from 18–21 hours to just 8 hours, revolutionizing long-distance travel across Maharashtra. It is expected to become a key economic and spiritual corridor — enhancing logistics, tourism, and religious travel by providing faster access to temples and shrines.
Once operational, the Shaktipeeth Expressway will be an integral part of Maharashtra’s expanding expressway network, driving balanced regional development, improved trade mobility, and greater intra-state connectivity.
