Teachers’ and non-teaching staff unions across Maharashtra have announced a statewide school shutdown on Friday, December 5, 2025, to protest what they say are the state government’s “unfair and negligent decisions.”
The Maharashtra State Education Institutions Federation has backed the protest and asked all member schools to stay closed on that day.
Their key demands include cancelling the ongoing recruitment through the Pavitra Portal, starting recruitment for non-teaching staff, clearing long-pending non-salary grants, waiving property tax for schools, installing solar power systems in aided schools, and releasing all pending RTE reimbursements.
Federation president Ravindra Fadnavis has urged the government to immediately hold a meeting to resolve these long-standing issues, saying quick action is necessary for the welfare of teachers and the quality of education.
Unions say the statewide shutdown is aimed at pushing the government to take their demands seriously and provide long-overdue relief to teaching and non-teaching staff.
