Pachpaoli Police have busted a minor vehicle-theft gang after detaining three teenagers who stole motorcycles to flaunt new smartphones and enjoy ‘stylish’ rides across the city.
The crackdown began after Bhagwantsingh Gill (60) of Baba Buddhaji Nagar reported his motorcycle (MH-49-CL-8116) stolen from outside his home on November 25. Police registered a case and intensified patrolling in the area.
During a night patrol in Lashkaribag near the Bajirao Sakhare Library, a police team spotted three boys riding triple-seat on a suspicious two-wheeler. When asked to stop, the teens tried to escape but were quickly chased down and detained.
Their inconsistent replies during questioning raised suspicion. After sustained interrogation, the minors admitted they had stolen the motorcycle. Further probe revealed that the trio had lifted four additional two-wheelers from Pachpaoli and nearby localities — MH-49-S-1539, MH-31-FM-6137, MH-49-CN-2120 and MH-31-FT-9433.
Police have since recovered all five stolen motorcycles from their possession.
The operation was executed under the guidance of Senior PI Baburao Raut, with key participation from officers Ranjit Majgaonkar, Dnyaneshwar Bhoge, Imran Shaikh, Romesh Menevar, Gagan Yadav, Santosh Shendare, Mahendra Shelokar and Preeti Thorat.
