Police Commissioner Vishwas Nagre Patil and Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar held a joint meeting
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Nagpur City Police will jointly launch a crackdown on illegal pan stalls, encroachments and unauthorised sale of tobacco products, cigarettes, alcohol and narcotic substances in the city.
The decision was taken during a joint meeting chaired by Police Commissioner Vishwas Nagre Patil and Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar. Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Municipal Commissioner Milind Meshram, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Khawale, assistant commissioners of the NMC and senior police officials were present at the meeting.
During the meeting, Police Commissioner Vishwas Nagre Patil said Nagpur, being centrally located in the country, attracts students and people from different regions for education and employment. He stressed the need for coordinated action against illegal establishments involved in the unauthorised sale of drugs, cigarettes, tobacco products and liquor.
He directed police and civic officials to identify such locations and initiate strict action to curb illegal activities and improve law and order in the city.
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar briefed the police officials about the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s ‘Mission 100 Day’ campaign aimed at removing encroachments from footpaths and public spaces to ensure safe movement for pedestrians and improve urban discipline.
He said the anti-encroachment drive is being carried out in coordination with the district administration, police department, Nagpur Improvement Trust, National Highways Authority of India and the Public Works Department to make the city free of encroachments and improve the quality of civic infrastructure.
