Amid the ongoing disruption caused by IndiGo’s large-scale cancellations, the government on Saturday, November 6, directed all airlines to strictly follow airfare caps until the situation returns to normal.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation said it had taken serious note of airlines charging unusually high fares during the crisis. To prevent “opportunistic pricing,” the ministry invoked its regulatory powers and issued a formal directive enforcing strict compliance with newly prescribed fare limits.
These fare caps will remain in effect until operations stabilise.
The ministry said the move aims to maintain price discipline, protect passengers from being overcharged, and ensure that vulnerable travellers—such as senior citizens, students, and patients—are not put under financial strain during the disruption.
