The Winter Session witnessed its first dramatic adjournment after Nagpur East MLA Krishna Khopde and Central Nagpur MLA Pravin Datke levelled explosive allegations against former Municipal Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, plunging the Assembly into uproar. Khopde claimed Mundhe had illegally signed cheques worth ₹20–25 crore without authority and collected Smart City-related charges without government approval. Datke supported the charges, alleging that Mundhe’s decisions triggered major financial and administrative irregularities within the civic body and Smart City operations.
Khopde further accused Mundhe of mistreating women staff, citing a case where a pregnant employee was allegedly denied leave and compelled to work until just days before delivering her child. He also revealed that he had received death threats for raising these issues and had lodged a formal complaint with the Police Commissioner and Sadar Police Station.
Adding to the escalation, the MLAs questioned a 20 October 2025 Urban Development Department order granting post-facto approval to Mundhe’s controversial 2020 appointment as CEO of Nagpur Smart City, despite earlier objections from the NSSCDCL Board, former Mayor Sandip Joshi, legal experts and even Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
As BJP legislators stormed the Well demanding action, Speaker Rahul Narwekar was forced to adjourn the House for 10 minutes. The political storm, lawmakers warned, is only beginning.
