A 17-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide after consuming an insect-prevention powder used for storing rice at her residence in the Wathoda area of Nagpur, police said.
The incident occurred around 4 pm on December 20, 2025, at Manavshakti Society on Bahadura Road, Kharbi, under the jurisdiction of Wathoda police station. The deceased has been identified as Mahi Kishor Umale (17).
According to police, the girl intentionally consumed the chemical powder, which is commonly used to protect stored grains from insect infestation. Soon after consuming the substance, her health condition deteriorated rapidly.
Family members rushed her to a private hospital, from where she was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur. Despite medical treatment, she succumbed at 9.40 pm on December 21, 2025. Doctors declared her dead after examination.
Following medical intimation, Wathoda police registered a case of accidental death (ADR). Police Sub-Inspector Ravindra Chavan is conducting further inquiry. The exact reason behind the extreme step is yet to be ascertained, and statements of family members are being recorded as part of the investigation.
