After the announcement of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation election results, discussions have intensified over who will become the next mayor from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Adding to the uncertainty, the lottery for mayoral reservation has still not been announced, triggering widespread speculation.
For the first time in the state’s municipal election history, the mayoral reservation process appears to have been put on hold, leading to confusion among both administrators and political circles. Normally, the mayor’s post is reserved through a rotation system or a lottery, which is declared either before the elections or during the ward formation process. This makes it clear which category of candidates will be eligible for the post.
This time, however, no such announcement has been made. As a result, discussions are now focused on two key issues: whether the mayoral reservation will continue as per the earlier rotation decided in previous elections, or whether a fresh process will be started by introducing a zero roster.
With no clarity on reservation, speculation about possible contenders has grown. Several names from different categories are being discussed as strong candidates for the mayor’s post. Some aspirants have even claimed they have received assurances from party leaders, further adding to the political buzz in the city.
