Demonstrating exceptional vigilance, promptness, and social responsibility, a woman ticket-checking staff member of Central Railway’s Nagpur Division ensured the safe reunion of a minor girl with her family, preventing her from potentially falling victim to an untoward incident.
On July 20, 2026, Ms. Yati (CCTC), working under CTI (Station), Nagpur, was performing her routine ticket-checking duty on the platform. At around 12:30 PM, near the main exit gate of Platform No. 1, she noticed a 15-year-old schoolgirl accompanied by a young man, both wandering around the platform in suspicious circumstances.
During ticket checking, neither of them could produce a valid journey ticket or a platform ticket. They also claimed that they had not arrived at the station by train. Sensing that something was amiss, Ms. Yati questioned them further. The girl disclosed that she was a resident of Gopal Nagar, Nagpur, and a Class IX student studying at a school in Sitabuldi, Nagpur.
Realising the seriousness of the situation, Ms. Yati used the girl’s mobile phone to contact her brother and asked him to come to Nagpur Railway Station with their Aadhaar cards for identity verification. Meanwhile, when she attempted to obtain further information from the young man accompanying the girl, he fled from the spot.
The girl was then escorted to the CTI (Station) Office for further inquiry and necessary action. While examining the girl’s mobile phone, Ms. Yati found the contact number of the establishment where the girl’s father worked. She immediately contacted him and requested him to come to the station with the necessary identity documents.
Shortly thereafter, the girl’s father arrived at the station along with her brother and produced the original Aadhaar cards for verification. In the presence of the officer-in-charge, their identities were duly verified, the necessary details were recorded, and the minor girl was safely handed over to her father.
The incident highlights that the ticket-checking staff of Nagpur Division not only performs its primary responsibility of ticket checking and revenue protection but also remains highly vigilant and committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers, particularly women and children.
By going beyond the call of her routine duty, Ms. Yati displayed exemplary alertness, compassion, and a strong sense of social responsibility. Her timely intervention prevented a minor girl from potentially falling into an unsafe situation, making her commendable action worthy of appreciation.
