A 65-year-old man was killed and three others were injured after a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus collided with a milk transport vehicle at LED Chowk in Nagpur on Tuesday morning. The impact caused the milk van to overturn onto pedestrians standing along the roadside.
According to police, the Tata Intra milk vehicle (MH-31-GD-0585) was travelling from Ram Nagar towards Abhyankar Nagar Chowk when it was hit by an MSRTC bus (MH-40-Y-5127) coming from Shankar Nagar Chowk and heading towards Ambazari T-Point.
Following the collision, the milk van driver lost control of the vehicle, which overturned and struck three people standing near the road. Anandrao Jadhav (65), a resident of Corporation Colony, died on the spot.
The injured have been identified as Sunil Kushalrao Gudde (62) of Gandhinagar-Ambazari, Shailendra Marotrao Kingaonkar (62) of Corporation Colony, and Abhishek Durgaprasad Jagne (23), the driver of the Tata Intra and a resident of Khaparkheda on Koradi Road. All three were rushed to hospital and are undergoing treatment.
The accident triggered panic in the area as residents gathered at the scene. A team from Bajaj Nagar Police Station reached the spot, carried out a preliminary investigation and registered a case.
Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the collision.
