A long-awaited road connectivity project linking Hingna Road with Wardha Road is in its final phase and is expected to substantially ease daily commuting once opened to traffic. The new link road will offer motorists a direct route between the two major arterial roads, eliminating the need for longer detours and reducing pressure on existing traffic corridors.
The 5.5-km-long cement concrete road has been developed by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) at a cost of ₹63 crore under the State government’s basic infrastructure scheme. Designed as a connector to Orange City Street, the project was taken up following sustained demands from local residents seeking improved access and smoother traffic movement.
Officials said the new road will serve as a convenient alternative to the heavily congested Ring Road, which currently handles large volumes of traffic moving from Hingna Road towards Chandrapur, Butibori and Wardha. Once operational, the link is expected to significantly cut congestion on key arterial routes and improve overall connectivity in the area.
As part of the project, an existing slum settlement was removed, while a private land parcel measuring 12,619 square feet was acquired at a cost of ₹9 crore to facilitate construction. The road has also been fitted with decorative poles and modern street lighting to enhance visibility and safety. In addition, steel grills have been installed over stormwater drains to ensure smooth rainwater flow during the monsoon season.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation Commissioner and Administrator Dr Abhijit Chaudhari recently inspected the project site to review the progress of work and issued on-the-spot instructions to officials to expedite the remaining tasks.
Senior civic officials present during the inspection included Chief Engineer Manoj Talewar, Superintending Engineer Leena Upadhye, Executive Engineer Anil Gedam and Deputy Engineer Rajiv Gautam. Officials expressed confidence that the new road at Takli Sim would soon provide much-needed relief to commuters and strengthen the city’s road network.
