All roads will lead to Jamtha on Wednesday, January 21, when India face New Zealand in the opening match of the five-match T20 International series at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur. The match marks the beginning of India’s preparations for the home T20 World Cup and is expected to be played in front of a packed and festive crowd.
Under the floodlights at a sold-out venue, fans can expect an action-packed evening led by India’s aggressive batting line-up, featuring Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, captain Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and others. Bowlers from both teams will look to make an impact on a surface that offers pace, swing and turn. The excitement around the match was evident as tickets were sold out within just two hours.
The match will start at 7 pm, with stadium gates opening at 4 pm to allow smooth entry. While traffic diversions have been put in place, congestion is expected as most spectators will approach from one direction. Authorities have urged fans to use Metro and city bus services to ease traffic.
Both teams have completed their preparations ahead of the series opener. India arrived in Nagpur early and have been training intensively, while New Zealand have held practice sessions over the past three days, eager to put up a strong challenge despite India’s impressive record in the rivalry.
In 25 T20 Internationals between the two sides, India have won 14 matches, New Zealand 10, with one ending in a tie. The hosts will look to extend their lead, while the visitors aim to close the gap.
Jamtha has established itself as one of India’s premier T20 venues, hosting its 14th T20 International on Wednesday — the highest by any ground in the country. India have won the last three T20Is played here and will be keen to maintain that streak.
For the comfort of spectators, the Vidarbha Cricket Association will provide free drinking water inside the stadium. Fans have been advised to carry cash for food purchases due to possible network issues.
To facilitate smooth travel, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation will operate additional buses to and from the stadium. Maha Metro will also run extra services up to New Airport Metro Station, from where shuttle buses arranged by the VCA will transport spectators to the stadium. Additional shuttle services will be available from designated parking areas near the UltraTech Cement Plant to the Jamtha Stadium T-point.
With top-class cricket, packed stands and a carnival-like buzz, Nagpur is all set for a memorable night of T20 action.
