Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday announced an ambitious push to strengthen social and educational infrastructure, led by a proposal to set up a dedicated girls’ hostel in every district across the country—an initiative that would expand residential support for female students in over 700 districts.
The policy package also extended to the agriculture and healthcare sectors, with a proposed loan-linked capital subsidy scheme to promote the development of veterinary hospitals, diagnostic labs, and specialised colleges.
To modernise traditional healthcare systems, the Finance Minister unveiled plans to upgrade AYUSH pharmacies and drug-testing laboratories, including support for the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
Additionally, the Centre plans to enable the development of five university townships, to be strategically located near major industrial and logistics hubs, aiming to strengthen the linkage between higher education and industry.
