Maharashtra is preparing to roll out a new statewide government recruitment system, aiming to fill more than 70,000 vacancies in phases. Of these, nearly 50,000 positions will be recruited through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC).
The decision was taken at a key meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, which focused on accelerating governance and administrative reforms.
The proposed changes place strong emphasis on human resource management and ensuring greater transparency in the hiring process.
Sharing details on X, Fadnavis said a new recruitment framework would soon be implemented across the state.
He noted that appointments would be based on required skills, service entry rules, eligibility criteria, and the nature of work. He also directed all major departments to fast-track comprehensive administrative reforms, with priority given to improving HR practices and maintaining transparency in recruitment.
Amendments to the state’s service recruitment rules are expected to be taken up at an upcoming cabinet meeting.
Fadnavis further highlighted that Maharashtra’s human resource management model, presented at the Chief Ministers’ Conference in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was widely appreciated, with other states encouraged to consider adopting similar reforms. He said Maharashtra is positioning itself as a model for governance reform.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need for robust online and digital verification systems to ensure the recruitment process remains transparent, credible, and efficient. He added that a new governance reform model is expected to take shape within the next year, with active participation from all departments.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary and other senior officials.
