Banking operations and mining production in the region are likely to face partial disruption on February 12 as trade unions observe a nationwide strike protesting against what they describe as the government’s “anti-worker” policies.
Members and office-bearers of the All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA) and the Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) will join the strike along with representatives of 10 Central Trade Unions.
The Eastern Maharashtra Bank Employees Association has urged its members to gather at 10:30 am in front of the Bank of India Zonal Office on Kingsway for a demonstration against the new labour laws. Following the protest, participants will take out a rally, which will conclude with brief addresses.
Coal mine production in the region is also expected to be affected as mine workers participate in the strike. In addition, the involvement of power sector employees, engineers, workers and farmers may lead to disruptions in some other services as well.
