In a major construction lapse, three underpasses on the Nagpur–Katol Road (NH-353J) have been partially demolished and are now being rebuilt after poor-quality work was detected by the contractor company, Joint Stock. The ramps of the nearly completed structures, located between Kalmeshwar and Katol, were found to be structurally substandard and had to be brought down.
The contractor has since been removed from the project. Officials also found that several retaining (RE) walls constructed along the stretch were technically flawed.
The four-laning project has already faced repeated court criticism over significant delays, and the latest setbacks are expected to further extend the project timeline.
