Aarit Thakur in Open Group and Vritika Game in Women’s Group Annexed the Titles of the Nagpur District Open and Women’s Chess Championship 2026 organized by Chess Association Nagpur in association with G.H.Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation and Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation at G.H.Raisoni College, 6th Floor, Rian Tower, Mangalwari, Nagpur held on 15th February 2025. Prizes worth Rs. 10000/- for each group sponsored by G.H.Raisoni Sports and Welfare Foundation were at stake.
Aarit scored 7 ½ points in 8 rounds to remain unbeaten clear winner, full point ahead of his nearest rival. Mayur Gupta scored 6 ½ points to get the second position. Kushagra Paliwal, Mohak Bhagchandani, Swaraj Mishra and Shreyas Bahadure also scored 6 ½ points but were placed from 3rd to 6th in the final list based on their tie break scores.
In the women group, Vritika Game with 7 points out of 8 was a clear winner. Vidhi Mishrikotkar and Avanti Junghare scored 6 points and were placed 2nd and 3rd based on tie break scores. Shambhavi Khedkar, Swara Gandhi, Ayanshi Bhengade and Simran Tijare scored 5 ½ points each and were placed from 4th to 7th based on tie break scores.
Winners of Both Groups Aarit Thakur and Vritika Game, got richer by Rs.1500/- and trophy.
Top finishers in Open and Women group were awarded cash prizes sponsored by G.H. Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation alongwith trophies. Medals were given to top two finishers in Under-19, 15,13, 11, 9 and 7 age categories as well as veterans.
Top 4 finishers in open group i.e. Aarit Thakur, Mayur Gupta, Kushagra Paliwal and Mohak Bhagchandani and Top 4 finishers in Women group i.e. Vritika Game, Vishi Mishrikotkar, Avanti Junghare and Shambhavi Khedkar were selected to represent Nagpur district in Maharashtra state Open and Women’s chess Championship to be held later this year.
Prizes were distributed at the hands of CA Satish Sarda, Managing Partner of M/s Sarda Soni LLP and Smt Mamta Sarda, Director M/s CIFC Private Limited who are both avid Marathon Runners and sports enthusiasts. Shri Bhushan Shriwas, Secretary, Chess Association Nagpur and Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation, and Shri S.S.Soman, Member, MCA Observer Committee and Chief Arbiter IA Shiva Iyer were present on the occasion.
The event was organised under the patronage of G.H.Raisoni Sports and Welfare Foundation under the able guidance of Shri Sunil Raisoni, Chairman, Raisoni Group, Dr. Mrinal Naik, Director(Projects) and Shri Amit Gandhare, Director (Public Relations) Raisoni Group.
IA Shiva Iyer was the Chief Arbiter who was ably assisted by FA Amit Tembhurne, SNA Prayas Ambade, SNA Shrikant Bagde, SNA Shirshir Indurkar for smooth conduction of the event.
