City Police have initiated suo motu proceedings following a late-night altercation during a Valentine’s Day celebration at Raasta Club in Shivaji Nagar under the jurisdiction of Ambazari Police Station. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Nityanand Jha confirmed that a notice has been served to the club management seeking an explanation for not reporting the incident to authorities.
The confrontation reportedly unfolded on Saturday night after a minor disagreement between two groups escalated into a physical scuffle inside the premises. Witnesses said the situation briefly turned chaotic, with individuals seen pushing and trading blows before the disturbance was contained. No serious injuries were reported.
A video of the incident, allegedly recorded by attendees, has gone viral across social media platforms, prompting criticism over security arrangements at high-footfall nightlife venues. The footage captures disorder inside the club, leading to public concern about enforcement of safety norms during large gatherings.
DCP Nityanand Jha stated that police have taken cognisance of the viral visuals and commenced suo motu action. He added that the club has been asked to clarify why the episode was not immediately brought to the notice of law enforcement, as required under standard procedure.
The episode has once again drawn attention to safety management at late-night parties, particularly against the backdrop of an earlier violent incident on Wardha Road that had intensified scrutiny of crowd control measures at event venues.
While no formal complaint had been registered at Ambazari Police Station at the time of filing this report, officials indicated that further legal action would depend on the findings of the inquiry and the response submitted by the establishment.
Citizens have urged stricter monitoring of clubs and enhanced police coordination to ensure that such incidents do not escalate into more serious crimes in the future.
