Nagpur played host to one of India’s most extravagant weddings this weekend as a member of billionaire Shivkishan Agrawal’s family tied the knot. Agrawal, who leads the Nagpur-based arm of the iconic Haldiram’s empire, gave the lavish celebration an instant nickname online — the “Haldiram wedding.”
The grand affair has since taken over Instagram, with viral videos showcasing the scale and opulence of the celebrations. One clip revealed how the wedding venue was transformed into a palace-like spectacle, complete with towering floral installations, shimmering ice sculptures and massive chandeliers. Another video captured actor Shahid Kapoor delivering a high-energy performance at the sangeet ceremony, which featured dramatic fireworks and pyrotechnics. The couple also marked the pre-wedding festivities by cutting an elaborate eight-tier cake.
Senior BJP leader Hansraj Ahir attended the ceremony and shared glimpses from the venue. He offered his blessings to the newlyweds and presented them with a bouquet. A caption accompanying his post noted that during his visit to Nagpur, he participated in the family wedding of Shiv Kishan Ji, Chairman of the Haldiram Group, and conveyed his best wishes to the bride and groom for a happy married life.
Guests described the event as nothing short of spectacular. One attendee, Harsh, called it a “bhayankar shaadi,” sharing a video of the sky above Le Méridien Nagpur illuminated by fireworks. The footage also showed an array of lavish food stalls set up to serve guests.
Who is Shivkishan Agrawal?
Shivkishan Agrawal belongs to the third generation of the Haldiram’s founding family and heads the Nagpur-based branch of the business.
The Haldiram brand traces its origins to a small shop in Bikaner, Rajasthan, founded by Agrawal’s grandfather, Ganga Bishan Agarwal. Over the decades, it evolved into one of India’s most recognisable snack and confectionery brands. According to Forbes, the family business was eventually divided among branches operating in Nagpur, Delhi and Kolkata, with Shivkishan leading the Nagpur faction.
In April 2023, the Delhi and Nagpur branches merged to form Haldiram Snacks Food Limited. Agrawal’s real-time net worth is estimated at $3.3 billion, driven largely by his stake in the Haldiram business.
