A tense situation has emerged at the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). While the city proudly promotes its ‘Smart City’ status, the doctors entrusted with safeguarding public health have been waiting months for their salaries.
Doctors working under the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM), who have not been paid for the past two months, finally reached a breaking point. On Tuesday, hundreds of them announced a sudden ‘stop-work’ strike, severely disrupting healthcare services across the city.
With medical needs rising, especially due to a spike in cold, cough, and viral fever cases linked to changing weather, the strike left hundreds of patients without treatment, forcing many to return home unattended.
