In a significant breakthrough under the city police’s anti-drug initiative, the Hingna Police Station seized 16.94 kg of ganja valued at ₹4.20 lakh from Jamtha on Wednesday.
The seizure was made as part of the ongoing “Operation Thunder” campaign aimed at curbing narcotics trafficking and substance abuse.
Police received information from a hotel owner in Jamtha about two suspicious bags lying behind his establishment. Upon reaching the spot and conducting a panchnama, officers found a dark green cloth bag concealed beneath a handcart containing nine packets of ganja weighing 10.936 kg. Another yellow-brown bag contained six packets weighing 6.004 kg.
In total, 16.940 kg of ganja and the bags were seized, with the contraband valued at ₹4,20,800. Preliminary investigation suggests that an unidentified passenger travelling by a private bus abandoned the bags behind the hotel after sensing suspicion.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act against an unknown accused. Further probe is ongoing to trace the suspect.
