The Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority has initiated the formal process for the world-class redevelopment, landscaping and beautification of Deekshabhoomi, Nagpur, as outlined in its official project document . The project is proposed to be implemented through government funding, with provisions for a Public-Private Partnership model where required .The initial development outlay has been estimated at approximately ₹70 crore, with scope for expansion in future phases depending on response and requirements As per the document, the authority will appoint a Project Management Consultant to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR), provide transaction advisory services, assist in securing approvals, prepare bid documents, support the selection process, and supervise execution and quality control of the project The scope of work includes comprehensive master planning, landscaping, development of pathways, tourism-oriented infrastructure, sound and lighting themes, and overall site enhancement The consultant will be selected through a two-stage evaluation under a Quality-cum-Cost Based Selection (QCBS) system The redevelopment proposal comes against the backdrop of protests that took place in 2024 over an earlier underground parking plan at Deekshabhoomi, with Ambedkarite groups raising concerns about preserving the sanctity and structural safety of the monument. The state government subsequently halted that component following public objections. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had then stated that any development at Deekshabhoomi would respect its historical and spiritual significance and would proceed only with sensitivity toward public sentiment. With the new structured planning process now underway, the authority is positioning the redevelopment as a comprehensive but carefully managed upgrade of one of Nagpur’s most important cultural and pilgrimage landmarks.
