In a swift and coordinated late-night rescue operation, an injured deer was safely rescued from the campus of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) on Monday, February 23, around 9 pm.
The incident came to light when the VNIT campus security in-charge spotted the deer near Quarter No. 43, Mira Dabhi, and immediately alerted members of the Wildlife Welfare Society for assistance.
Wildlife Team Responds Quickly
Responding to the call, Wildlife Welfare Society members Gaurang Waikar, Bhushan Mahule, Rohit Humnapatkar, Akash Sonkule, and Pratiksha Ganvir rushed to the location. Upon inspection, they found the deer injured and in need of urgent care.
The team promptly informed the Transit Treatment Centre, following which Forest Department personnel, including Round Officer Asawale and staff members Bandu Mangar, Swapnil Bhure, and Ashish Mahalle, reached the site.
Deer Shifted for Medical Treatment
Working together, the wildlife volunteers and forest officials safely captured the injured deer and transported it to the Transit Treatment Centre at Seminary Hills, where it is undergoing medical treatment.
Police Assist in Maintaining Safety
Personnel from Bajaj Nagar Police Station, including Nitin Bante and Pankaj Rathod, were also present to assist in maintaining order and ensuring the safety of both rescuers and the animal.
Timely Coordination Saves Life
Officials stated that the quick communication and coordinated efforts between VNIT security, Wildlife Welfare Society volunteers, the Forest Department, and the police played a crucial role in saving the animal’s life.
