The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Dharampeth Zone, has issued a demolition order against unauthorized construction at Plot No. 11, Vidarbha Premier Housing Society, Bhagwaghar Layout, near Children’s Traffic Park.
According to officials, the property owner Umesh Vasudev Verma had converted portions of the building’s common open space—designated strictly for residential use—into commercial units. During an inspection on 27 June 2025, NMC engineers found that the ‘Moonlight Studio’ photo studio was set up illegally in the eastern common area, while an office was constructed in the western section.
The civic body asked the owner to submit legal building documents on 2 July 2025, but no records were provided. As a result, NMC served a notice under Section 53(1) of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966 on 8 September 2025. Even after the deadline passed, the illegal construction remained untouched.
Several hearings were scheduled to allow both parties to present their claims. However, the property owner failed to provide any documentary evidence validating the construction. Based on the findings, NMC concluded that the following structures violated the sanctioned building plan (Permit No. CS/606/4665 dated 29 December 1988):
61.15 sq.m. illegal construction in the eastern common space used by Moonlight Studio
53.01 sq.m. illegal construction in the western common space used as an office
27.09 sq.m. temporary tin shed
Total unauthorized area: 142.41 sq.m.
NMC has now ordered the owner to demolish the illegal structures within 15 days and submit a compliance report. If the owner fails to comply, the civic body will carry out the demolition and recover all related expenses.
The action is part of NMC’s ongoing efforts to curb unauthorized constructions, in line with the Supreme Court’s order dated 13 November 2024 and the corporation’s revised circular issued on 22 September 2025.
